Winter Picnic in an Igloo
Racine, WI
My sister invited us for a winter picnic in an igloo at the Racine Zoo. This was a fun adventure to commemorate New Year’s Eve.
The experience started with an animal encounter. The zoologist brought a box turtle to our igloo and we learned about him and could touch his shell.
For lunch, we were served grilled cheese and tomato soup. The trays and setup for serving this were convenient for us and the kids.
Next, we were able to make s’mores over our own “fire”. These were inside-out smores so the chocolate and graham cracker was inside the marshmallow, much easier to make than a classic s’more.
Our igloo included a speaker for music, games to play, and heaters. It was actually sunny and quite warm while we were in the igloo. We opted to open the igloo windows for some fresh air.
Included in the igloo experience was admission to the zoo. Racine Zoo is on the smaller side when compared to other zoos, which is great for winter days. We walked around for about an hour and saw the animals. Then we got in some playtime at the park.
