Milwaukee Public Museum
Milwaukee, WI
After lunch we headed downtown Milwaukee to the Public Museum. We easily found paid parking about a block from the museum. Then headed inside to explore.
After buying our museum admission tickets we headed over to the Daniel M. Soref Planetarium and Dome Theater to watch our included Planetarium program. We saw the Wisconsin Stargazing program which took us through a live tour of the current Wisconsin night sky. An astronomer educator showed us the current sights in the sky including planets, constellations, and meteors.
The Street of Old Milwaukee exhibit includes a walk-through diorama. The life-sized street car entrance transported us on a journey back in time to Milwaukee’s yesteryear. It was fun to talk and educate the kids on how the “olden” days were.
Our favorite exhibit at the museum was the Puelicher Butterfly Wing. We were able to stroll through a warm, tropical garden. It is a glass-enclosed garden that was designed to provide fragile butterflies with a tropical environment throughout every Wisconsin season.
The boys were awed while wandering amid free-flying butterflies and even got a few to land on them. Hold still boys!
The second floor at the museum took us on a journey through North America. We learned about the natural environments and about Native American cultures. The boys even got to sit in an igloo!
The museum had a lot to see! It is most defiantly one of those places you would need to make a few visits to see everything. We were just there for the afternoon and we all learned something and had fun!
