Round Lake Children’s and Prairie Grass Museums
Round Lake, IL
Round Lake has a couple of great museums for younger children. I took my 4 year old to explore both of these and he had a ton of fun. These museums are great spots for those who are local.
Round Lake Children’s Museum
Our first stop was the Round Lake Children’s Museum. This museum is located in the basement of the park district building. The space includes a tot-sized replica of a town built especially for kids. Kid are able to drive a car to the market, gas up at the local gas station, be a doctor, lead a classroom and explore in the STEM area! The museum is best for children up to six years old. The museums does include a crawler zone for those with younger siblings.
Carson really enjoyed shopping at their grocery store area the most. He enjoys make believe so this was his heaven! If your child is in to make believe this a great museum for them to play and use their imagination.
Another favorite area was the camping area. This was complete with a tent and you are able to build a make-believe camp fire. Check their website for hours and admission prices. They are a little limited on the hours they are open, but there are free admission days as well.
Prairie Grass Nature Museum
After visiting the Children’s Museum we made a visit to the Prairie Grass Nature Museum. This museum is next door to the park district building. There are a few live animals to watch including turtles.
The best thing about the Prairie Grass Museum is there is no cost. If you want to just stop by and see the animals the free admission allows you to do that. This museum is a great place to learn and feel like you are outside when you are inside.
